It's not all about Musk

(An informative rant)

When I talk about my work as a space lawyer, inevitably Elon Musk’s name appears on the scene. I try not to talk about him much, There are so many more important things to talk about, to know and to understand about what’s happening in space and why it matters. But it’s unavoidable. He is a powerful and disruptive figure, promising to be a technological saviour, but with questionable motives and decisions.

Briefly, Elon Musk was the world’s first and only trillionaire, as SpaceX entered its initial public offering on the stock market last month, and everyone wanted a piece of the action. He lost that status two weeks later, after the market did a bit of a sense check, but news and public obsession with Musk hasn’t subsided. Why do we have such a fascination with this individual? How groundbreaking are his technologies? Will he really build 1 million robots and take humanity to Mars? And the biggest question of all….should we care?
